Snakes hold strong in Preseason clash

Saturday saw the first hit out of the season by the Caboolture Seniors against a combined Gympie – Eumundi side at their home ground. Despite the warm conditions the Caboolture pack battled well, with some good driving runs lead by the number 8 Jacob Anderson.

Some elusive runs by the young right winger Tery Gie nearly saw him nearly go over in the corner in the opening 20 minutes. But some solid defence by the visitors kept the home side out. A couple of small handling errors cost Caboolture close to the line after some good driving runs from the forwards.

In the second half the home side was able to turn pressure into points. Some good turnover ball at the breakdown by young Jake Harvey led to John Flew, playing at 10 for this game, breaking the line and putting Gie in for a well worked try in the corner.

With a heavier pack Caboolture started to dominate the forward battle. Some good pressure forced a fumble by the visitors leading to a runaway try by Tery Gie slotting in at fullback in the second half. Line out time saw the home side getting some turnover ball and halting the momentum of the Gympie – Eumundi side.

The visitors rallied late in the game with some good pressure being rewarded with a try, which was converted by the try scorer. The home side defended its line with some solid tackling to keep Gympie- Eumundi from crossing the line again.

A positive start to the 2020 campaign for the Caboolture Seniors who showed a solid platform to build off as the season progresses. The side is looking forward to the return of a couple of players, and welcomes a returning coach in Jason de Kock. With his experience on and off the field, playing Junior Springboks, Currie Cup and holding numerous high level coaching jobs, the Caboolture side will be in good hands for the rest of the season.
