Caboolture Rugby Union Club is excited to announce a brand new competition for Moreton Bay. The Moreton Bay Super 6 Rugby Cup will be competed for, for the first time by six local secondary schools. The schools that have been accepted to participate are Tullawong SHS, Caboolture SHS, Deception Bay SHS, Southern Cross Catholic College, Clontarf Beach SHS and Murrumba State Secondary College. The schools will be competing in 15 a side, year 8, boys rugby.
The High school Rugby scene has dropped off to be nearly non existent in the past 20 years. Through funding made available through the Paul Ramsay Foundation, Caboolture Rugby Union Club has been working tirelessly to create a competition that reboots High School Rugby outside of the traditional Rugby Playing Schools. It will be used to help grow numbers back in to the adjoining clubs in the area. Redcliffe Rugby Union, North Lakes Leopards and Pine Rivers Pumas will be the main beneficiaries along with Caboolture. The clubs have all pledged their support to the competition which will see games played mainly at Kevin Kaeser Oval in Morayfield, with two being played at Ray Frawley Fields in Clontarf.
In a letter of support for the competition, Daniel Birrell, the QRU Rugby Services Manager said “We feel this is an important step and pathway in growing, developing and assisting the next generation of schoolboy talent in Greater Brisbane and Queensland.” Along with the QRU and Rugby Australia’s support, the competition has received a lot of support from Gilbert Rugby, who have supplied all the playing kit, balls and training equipment. Assist First Aid, who are covering the first aid for the competition and Coast and Country Buses, who will be transporting the six schools to their fixtures.
The Moreton Bay Super 6 Rugby Cup kicks off on August 28th, 4:00pm at Caboolture Rugby Union Club.
